I have to admit, I have been both very lucky and privileged to have had so many desert experiences in Egypt. Although after my first journey to the Eastern Desert in search of rock art, I had very little option but to keep on returning. The desert is certainly a ‘love or hate’ experience, and I loved it with a passion. As the sand can never be totally removed from one’s socks, boots, underwear or bags, neither can the longing to return be removed from the restless mind.
